Bluebeam to expand AI focus

Bluebeam to introduce new AI tools and invite customers to try out embryonic new AI technologies

Bluebeam is to introduce two new AI features to its AEC collaboration tools: Auto Align for drawing overlays and comparisons in Revu 21 and Automatic title block recognition when importing drawings to Bluebeam Cloud.

These latest AI innovations build on existing features like visual search, text recognition and batch processing which are designed to increase productivity, augment creative problem-solving, and automate repetitive tasks.

Auto Align is designed to reduce the tedious, error-prone steps of manually aligning three points on each drawing revision, so users can understand the differences between them faster.

According to Bluebeam, its customers currently use the Overlay and Compare features in Revu more than five million times a year. The process takes several clicks and up to two minutes per drawing. With the new Auto Align option and a revamped feature interface, the company says this can be streamlined to as little as 15 seconds.

With Automatic title block recognition, Bluebeam Cloud will be able to ‘instantly extract’ key drawing information from title blocks as metadata that can be used throughout the project, with a view to saving time and increasing accuracy.

Bluebeam has also introduced Bluebeam Labs, a collaborative workspace in Bluebeam Cloud that is designed to enable customers to ‘co-create on AI Innovations’. Bluebeam will demonstrate new ideas and technologies before they are launched and invite users to provide feedback.

The first AI-based feature showcased via Bluebeam Labs will be 3D Drawings, which uses AI to position up to hundreds of 2D drawings in 3D space. According to the developers, the program intuitively understands where to make the folds for the highest quality 3D visualisation and increased understanding of a project.
